The football game being played between Seattle and Denver on Feb. 2 is almost incidental. Super Bowl Sunday doubles as the world championship of selling us things: new TV shows, movies and music among them. Supergroup U2 will debut its song “Invisible” during a commercial.
U2and Bank of America are partnering for a charitable fundraising effort. Viewers can then download a limited edition of “Invisible” on iTunes. The bank needs the positive press, as a growing number of scandals surround it. In October, prosecutors requested $848 million in fines against Bank of America for knowingly selling defective mortgages. But hey, U2 is awesome, right? Bank of America loves charity, and don’t you forget it.
U2′s album, its first since 2008′s “No Line on the Horizon,” is expected this spring.
U2 aren’t the only musicians hoping to make a splash Super Bowl Sunday. Audi will feature Sarah McLachlan in an ad, while Foo Fighters and Fall Out Boy will play Super Bowl week concerts, and Bruno Mars and Red Hot Chili Peppers will headline the halftime show. The week leading up to the big game is a full force media blitz, and we’ll be here to keep you up to date on all the happenings.
